Years before Dan Brown's research came to light in form of The Da Vinci Code, Oxford educated, British scholar, Tobias Churton, had long gained notoriety of his work within the Gnostic spirituality realm. His 1987, 4-part drama documentary for Channel 4 (UK) television production, Gnostics, won the New York TV Festival Gold Award.
Former Dutch theologian said about Tobias' work for Channel 4 that it would "change the minds of millions".

As of 2005, Tobias has lectured at Exeter University where he is an honorary fellow and faculty member. He holds an MA in Theology from Brasenose College, Oxford. Born to an ancient Cheshire family in Sutton Coldfield (UK), Churton is considered Britain's leading scholar of Western Esotericism. Filmmaker, poet, composer and author, he is known for acclaimed biographies on William Blake, Aleister Crowley, Elias Ashmole and G.I. Gurdjieff. Having authored over 20 books, Churton's current publication: Aleister Crowley in India goes into the travels Crowley took in this mystical land.
