In the latest Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast, we chat with Composer Nathan Lanier, whose latest project is the brilliant new Apple TV+ mystery series, 'Home Before Dark'.
Multi-instrumentalist Nathan Lanier is a composer for film, television, and games who is known for his signature cinematic dance music on projects including 'So You Think You Can Dance' and 'Dancing With The Stars', along with scoring the mini-series 'Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn'. He has also scored over 20 feature films, including, 'Justin Bieber’s Believe', 'Jem & The Holograms', 'Max Steel', and the 'High Strung' movies. Additionally, his music has been featured on 'Conan', 'Ellen', 'Glee Live Tour', 'ISU World Figure Skating Championships', and the 'Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics', along with working with brands such as Microsoft, American Express, T-Mobile, LG, McDonalds, Ducati, the LA Clippers, and Korean Air.
Nathan's latest project sees him take on the music for Apple TV+ series 'Home Before Dark'. The series is a dramatic mystery inspired by the reporting of a young investigative journalist, Hilde Lysiak. Directed and executive produced by Jon M. Chu ('Crazy Rich Asians'), the drama follows a young girl named Hilde (Brooklynn Prince) who moves from the city of Brooklyn to the small lakeside town her father left behind. While there, her dogged pursuit of the truth leads her to unearth a cold case that everyone in town, including her own father, tried hard to bury.
One of the central themes of the show is to empower and give children a voice in society. Nathan’s score literally does this by featuring a Youth Choir throughout the season. His score has a childlike wonderment that is mixed with a hint of darkness. The soundtrack has been released alongside the series’ premiere.
