The story of Cain and Abel is often glossed over in children's Bibles and storytime. Admittedly, it's not the happiest of stories; it's downright upsetting and full of evil! We can learn such incredible lessons from Cain, though, which is why we tackle Genesis Chapter 4 head on in this week's episode of Donuts and Devos.
Jealousy. Anger. Spite. Murder. This Bible story has all the makings of a great plot line, but not in a good way for Cain! Cain was jealous of his brother Abel for receiving God's approval. He was angry that he didn't get something his brother got, so he did something very bad.
God could see the brothers' hearts and He saw that Abel's was full of faith and trust. Cain's heart was full of unbelief, which is why sin overcame him and he killed his brother. Cain remained unrepentant for his actions and his ultimate punishment came from his own doing. He walked away from the presence of God.
When we sin and do wrong, we need to be repentant and ask for the forgiveness only God can give through His Son, Jesus!
