How to exercise your emotional muscles
It is time for another EnneaTalk Tuesday, and this time I am talking about growing your emotional muscles. I have been reading your messages in my inbox during this pandemic, and if they have told me anything, it is that we all are struggling to work on our emotional muscles. I discuss how the enneagram can help build these muscles and grow relationships, communication, and self-awareness.
Listen to this episode to hear how the enneagram has helped me grow my own emotional muscles over the past eight years, how it can help you build yours, and how when used correctly, this tool can help you acknowledge your feelings.
Listen now
Growing emotional awareness
I start off this episode identifying different life categories and how emotional health and muscles are used in each. I describe exactly what your emotional muscles are and how similar they are to our actual muscles—how they need to be exercised and challenged, adding more weight each time to grow stronger. With emotional awareness, I talk about how much you can learn about it, but until you put it to practice, it just remains a lesson or theory.
Understanding where you go under stress
I go through each enneagram type and what number characteristics they take on when under stress, how to recognize when you go under stress, and how this can help you be aware and give space to all the emotions you feel.
Relearning emotional muscle memory
I talk about the different areas of my life and how I have worked to strengthen my emotional muscles in each part, how the Enneagram has helped me do so, and how sometimes, you have to completely relearn how to approach those areas in order to emotionally heal.
Muscle memory and learned behavior in relationships starts at a young age, and in order to not continue to repeat it, it has to completely be repaired. The enneagram can help you learn how to give your feelings the space they need, so you can build the relationships you deserve.
