Shops will reopen 15 June but Schools plan abandoned
The government confirmed today that non-essential shops will reopen from next week, subject to safety social distancing rules being followed.
However, plans to reopen primary Schools for all ages have been put on hold making it difficult for many people to return to work. Shops employ thousands of women, full and part-time staff, who would not be able to afford expensive child care should Schools stay closed.
Meanwhile, one in four workers, nearly 9 million people, are still on furlough at a cost of £19 billion to the taxpayer.
