In the 1980s John Hughes was a comingofage movie making machine. The Writer/Director was head of 80's classics like the National Lampoon series The Breakfast Club, Ferris Buellers Day Off and Pretty in Pink. As well as the legendary Planes Trains and Automobiles among others. After Joel Silver acquired the rights to the 1950's Weird Science comic published by EC Comics he took the idea from the story 'Made of the Future' and ran with it. Although the inspiration for the movie is loosely based on the comics it bares little resemblance in terms of storyline, but merely the essence of creating your own companion.
