A disruptive business model can create rapid and sustainable local-to-global economic development. We have all the technologies and business models already at hand to quickly repair the economy and open the door to an economic era of healing and sustainable prosperity. It is time to update the old social contract—created during a time of genocide against the native peoples of the land, slavery, and the second class status of women and others—to a 21st Century social, economic, and environmental covenant. If Dancing with the Stars can collect millions of audience votes in 5 minutes, we can do better than polling the American people on where we want the country to go once every four years! We are stuck in a political paradigm that could be called “left versus right or compromise.” It’s time to think outside that box to get somewhere new. Everything that we know today about money, economics, and commerce was inherited from an era of scarcity, from which we inherited win-lose competition over money and a grow-or-die business imperative. Today’s abundance has laid the foundation for win-win cooperation and a zero-growth Circular Economy. The pace of change today can be the pace of mobile apps and social media. What is holding us up is letting politics run the show. Blaming the rich is a distraction. While they have big electronic numbers under their name called bank accounts or stock ledgers, there’s no one on the planet who can eat enough food to leave anyone hungry, live in a big enough house to leave anyone homeless, or consume enough education or healthcare to leave anyone without. That’s the cultural and economic confusion between money and wealth. Busyness, blame, and resignation is the glue of the status quo.
