186: George Motz, Filmmaker & Writer, Hamburger America (Brooklyn, NY)
George Motz is a well-traveled Emmy award-winning freelance filmmaker, author and photographer. He’s also been called the foremost authority on hamburgers by The New York Times, and he’s the author of Hamburger America, a State-by-State Guide to Great Burger Joints and a cookbook titled The Great American Burger Book. We met years ago when one of his other passions, the Food Film Fest, came to Charleston, SC, and his enthusiasm and passion for education and fun around food really inspired me. And since our meeting, he’s gone on to be something of a pop-up burger legend with his Smashburger events that he’s held all over the world. In short, the burger is probably one of the most iconic foods recognized as “American” around the world, and so it’s time to delve into a juicy discussion about it topped with plenty of trivia for the holiday weekend.
