My favorite part of this discussion was when the person I was interviewing, after being asked a thought-provoking question about her belief, and after pondering for a moment how to answer, said:
“Now I have to think about that. What have you done?”
I love seeing that, and any conversation that causes self-reflection and a critical self-examination of one’s beliefs, is successful in my book.
Aliyah is an atheist. She believes there is no God due to insufficient evidence. So we talk briefly about the role of evidence in her belief, as well as what would count as sufficient evidence for her. What would it take to convince her that there was, in fact, a God?
