Over 170,000 women turned to homelessness services last year in Australia. Majority of these women are sadly also experiencing period poverty which means they cannot afford sanitary items.
In 2015 Rochelle Courtenay started collecting pads and tampons to give to homeless women in her local area. Now she runs a charity called Share The Dignity. And since starting the charity she has now collected over 1.3 million pads and tampons.
Share The Dignity founder Rochelle Courtenay spoke to The Nasty Woman Club host Demi Lynch about the charity and the impact domestic violence has on homelessness rates in Australia.
This August Share The Dignity is asking the public to donate pads and tampons to their nearest #Dignitydrive collection box. So next time you’re doing your shopping, keep in mind: one box for me, one box for her. To find you closest collection point head to sharethedignity.com.au
