John 9:18-41 (NIV)
Read by: Valerie Cullaton
God’s new creation has entered the world in the person of Jesus. He has made his dwelling among us and he is making all things new. Just as the world was made through him, it is now being remade. . . through him. He is the brush moving towards the canvas, the violinist in the silent concert hall, the sunlight shining into the garden, bringing together all the potential of what could be, into something that is.
Today’s passage is part two of the story of Jesus healing the man born blind.
----------REFLECT----------
1. What word or phrase stood out to you? Ask the Lord why.
2. There’s a lot of fear in this passage. The Pharisees were afraid of their entire belief system being torn apart. The man’s parents were afraid of being blacklisted by the Jewish community. In what areas of your life do you experience fear? Whose approval are you afraid of losing?
3. This story helps us see that there’s more than one way to be blind. Often we need to be healed of a narrow vision. Sometimes we are unable to see the image of God in others. . . or in ourselves. Where do you need Jesus to help you see what’s real? Do you need healing in your imagination to be able to see what could be? What will be? Bring these needs to the LORD.
