The first time I heard Jesse Israel speak inside the Guggenheim at The Big Quiet, I wanted to know more. The second I knew more, I knew I needed to share his story with the hurdlers. Now the brains behind the mass meditation movement, Israel went to NYU and started his career doing something entirely different — heading up a record label. After signing multi-platinum bands like MGMT, the Los Angeles native started to battle crippling anxiety and panic attacks. So, he took a step away from the music industry, and eventually found his way into the meditation space.
In episode 124, we chat about his journey between the two, plus how he used his experience touring with big bands to concept all that The Big Quiet is today. We also talk about what it was like to host events in some of the country’s most iconic venues (including Madison Square Garden), his best-practice tips for incorporating mediation into your regular routine, and how it felt to go on tour with Oprah at the beginning of this year. Also: The importance of self care, and the intense pressures that come with being an entrepreneur during a global pandemic.
