017 : How our generation can make change for black women’s maternal health
Send us a text
A few weeks ago I did an episode about race and the injustices black people face in America. I have limited experience and limited knowledge but in that episode, I said I don’t know, but I’m listening and I’m learning. Which is why I am bringing on Farah Antoine-Mayberry. She is a wife and mother of 5 kids. She is an occupational therapist, a certified lactation counselor, a birth doula, as well as a midwife's assistant. She is the founder of For the Village, a non-profit seeking to develop Black birthworkers and provide birth services within the Black community as an intentional way to address the astounding health disparities affecting Black families. She is passionate about what she does! I’m really excited to dive into this topic today so we can take a good look at why black women are 4x more likely to die in childbirth than white women in the US and how our generation can make the change that is so desperately needed.
