Hundreds of thousands evacuate as Hurricane Laura barrels toward the Gulf Coast-- set to make landfall as the strongest storm to hit the region in 15 years. At least two people were killed and another wounded, when shots rang out during protests over the shooting of Jacob Blake by police. We're still learning about the victims -- and about who allegedly opened fire -- on the third straight night of clashes in the city. The second night of the Republican National Convention offered a more positive message, capped off by First Lady Melania Trump. The convention also featured repeated examples of Trump administration officials mixing government and politics. The number of reported new coronavirus cases is falling, down to an average of 43,000 per day. Experts credit an increase in mask-wearing, and a better understanding of how the virus spreads. But they warn the U.S. still does not have sufficient testing.
