Summer Stones: Dr. Lucas Jacomides on Kidney Stone Formation and Emergency Removal
Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in urology care and the best urology humor out there.
In this segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee are joined by NAU Urology Specialists' partner, Dr. Lucas Jacomides. Dr. Jacomides talks about kidney stones, why they are commonly passed in the summer, and how to prevent their formation. He also describes what makes having a kidney stone an emergency situation--if you have a kidney stone that is obstructed and you develop a urinary tract infection, that constitutes an emergency that is best addressed in the emergency room. If you have a kidney stone without an infection, you can call our office and make an appointment to be seen as a non-emergency. Finally, if you are a frequent kidney stone former, in the summer months, Dr. Jacomides recommends drinking enough water that you're excreting 2-3 liters per day as urine. Dehydration increases kidney stone formation and the passing of those stones, so stay hydrated to stay out of the ER!
