You won't want to miss this week's episode! Jill interviews Peter Van Der Walt, a South African writer, about his experience coming out during Apartheid South Africa. Jill and Peter talk about having an open mind, global oppression of our LGBTQ+ siblings, and what it means to define your own life.
Pete's Advice For Young People:
Don't let anyone sell you a vision of the world that disempowers you. Regardless of good motivations, some people will want you to believe that you are at the mercy of people who want to do you harm. They will get you to think about yourself as a victim. I believe it is far better, more useful, more fun, more rational and more moral to view the world as a good place. Sure, you will meet some suffering, some discrimination, some mean people. But you are not at their mercy. Believe in yourself, believe you are empowered - and I believe your future will be as bright as you make it.
For older people:
See above, but with a sense of urgency.
