On this episode we speak to writer/director Sam Kelly. His short films have won numerous awards and screened around the world including official selections at Berlin, Clermont Ferrand, Melbourne, Uppsala and Raindance. In 2010 Sam was the recipient of the award for New Zealand’s “Young Filmmaker of the Year”, the leading award in NZ recognising emerging film talent.
In 2012 Sam made the short film Lambs based on research on the lives of at-risk youth in New Zealand.
Lambs received official selection at many prestigious international film festivals and won the Jury Prize and Audience Award at the New Zealand International Film Festival, Best Director at Show Me Shorts, the Young Jury Prize at Sequence (Toulouse), and Runner Up at One Lens (Hollywood). The film provided the launch pad for the development of the screenplay for his debut feature film Savage
