Daniel told me the word victim comes from the Latin root vicarious, which means taking someone’s place. In the world of victimology, the tragic consequence of being a victim means you’re taking on another’s sin—the sin of the person who abused you. An ongoing vicarious soul becomes a complicated, trapped one.
