Today I am joined by our first repeat guest, world-renowned speaker and author Michael Gelb. If you haven`t checked out the first episode, we had an epic time discussing creativity, his work with the Rolling Stones, and How to Think Like Leonardo DaVinci! Today we`re in for another treat as we will be discussing his new book, Mastering the Art of Public Speaking, how to transform fear and supercharge your career.
Max Out Insights:
Fear is almost universal, so don`t beat yourself up for having it
CAN > DOSE. In fear, we experience cortisol, adrenaline, and norepinephrine. The way to get out of this is by creating the neurochemistry of dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins through reframing fear into excitement.
If you know what you want others to feel, it`s easier for you to catch that feeling
Instead of just trying to “get through”, set intentions for your speech: What do you want your audience to know? How do you want them to feel? What do you want them to do?
Max Out Quotes:
“If you can`t improve on silence, zip it.”
“If you want to be a public speaker, have something interesting to say first.”
“Everybody has butterflies, the secret is to get the butterflies to fly in formation.”
“Excitement and terror are the same physiology, just a different framework.”
