Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis | twist and shout
Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis (SUFE) is a disorder of the hip joint most common in early adolescents.
During adolescence, the growth plate (physis) is very active with dividing cells and is responsible for the growth spurt. It is quite weak and vulnerable to shearing forces during this time. In SUFE, the growth plate suffers a form of fracture, and the femoral neck slips away from the epiphysis.
