Germany will assume the Presidency of the Council of the EU on 1 July 2020, the first in the new Trio Presidency that will include Slovenia and Portugal. In his address to the IIEA, Minister of State Roth will discuss the priorities of the upcoming German Presidency, including the European Green Deal as a trigger for economic growth, the digital transformation, the preservation of the rule of law in the EU, and the twin goals of repairing the EU’s economy and strengthening solidarity between its Member States.
This event is part of the IIEA’s Future of the EU27 Project, which is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
About the Speaker:
Michael Roth has been Minister of State for Europe at the German Federal Foreign Office since December 2013 and Commissioner for Franco-German Cooperation since 2014. He was first elected to the German Bundestag in 1998. Between 2010 and 2013, he was spokesperson on Europe for the parliamentary group of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).
