Interview with Erin Broadhurst, Hilliard City Schools, OH
Erin Yelton Broadhurst is an orchestra director for the Hilliard City School District near Columbus, Ohio. She has earned Master Teacher status as designated by the State of Ohio, and in April of 2016 she received a Baldwin-Wallace Outstanding Educator Award. She has served as a string clinician for the American String Teachers’ Association (ASTA and Ohio Music Education Association conferences, and is a member of the Executive Board for the Ohio chapter of ASTA. Ms. Broadhurst is currently the violist for the Columbus String Quartet, and her past professional performance experience includes membership in the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and Newark-Granville Symphony. Ms. Broadhurst’s previous teaching background includes serving as the director of the Newark-Granville Chamber Strings, Middletown Youth Symphony, and maintaining a private viola and violin studio. In 2003 she was chosen as the Ohio String Teachers’ Association's Young Teacher of the Year. Ms. Broadhurst earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree at BW and earned Master’s degrees in both String Pedagogy and Viola Performance from the Ohio State University. She thoroughly enjoys working with the wonderful students at Hilliard Memorial Middle School and Hilliard Bradley High School and spending time with her husband and two children.
