Episode 015 Pete Hamborg, Surfer, Body Surfer, Skater, Fireman, Family Man, and Skateboarding Accident
Pete Hamborg is a father of 5 boys, all surfers in Huntington Beach, California. He is a Fireman by trade, they've all been lifeguards, and he wanted to make a skateboard that actually gave him the longboard surfing experience he wanted on the sidewalk. He created Hamboards, and found himself accidentally in the skateboard business.
As most outsiders not connected in the cool guy world of the skate industry, they were heckled a bit, and eventually embraced by some, but we talk about that ridiculous cycle amongst other things. The hamboard is a seriously fun big ass skateboard that everyone who passes through here usually gets a turn on. Daewon Song and Torey Pudwill shredded it, Neil Blender surfed the hell of our one of them in the parking lot and many more.
I embrace quality skateboards of any shape, size, number of wheels etc... because I am a lover of riding skateboards, not a specific type of skateboarder. I mostly ride parks and bowls, but I love rolling on everything and the Hamboard is one fun board. If you are a skateboarder who laughs at stuff like that, well I am sorry for you, you are missing out on some fun.
Our conversation is all over the place on how we met, why the Hamboards crew got to see me skate while sitting on the toilet etc.... It is a great conversation with an upbeat positive human being..
