117: How My Mother's Book Shaped My Journey with Dr. Elizabeth Lorde-Rollins

2020 marks the 40th Anniversary of poet and activist Audre Lorde’s powerful book The Cancer Journals, which details her experience coping with breast cancer and a radical mastectomy. Today we sit down with Audre Lorde’s daughter Dr. Elizabeth Lorde-Rollins (a doctor, writer, and breast cancer survivor) to discuss the lasting impact of her mother's book, as well as how major experiences such as illness can shape how parents and children view each other, and how healthcare providers function as activists in their own communities.

As of January 2020, there are more than 3.5 million women with a history of breast cancer in the U.S. This includes women currently being treated and women who have finished treatment.
