There can be no meditation without compassion. We meditate so that we become more compassionate and the more compassionate we become the better our meditation becomes. Compassion is also about forgiving all the people who have hurt you in your life and moving on.
At any time you want to do something in your life that is going to hurt the other person, simply ask yourself that can I be more compassionate at this point of time?
There is enough room for compassion in the world, in your everyday life. Compassion does not mean that you give away all your wealth to someone else. Compassion can also be a small act of kindness and that goes a long way. It starts by giving respect to every single human being on the planet. You can be firm with the other person if you have to get a job done but does not mean that you have to speak in demeaning sense. Where you stand can only be figured out from how you behave with those who you don’t even know or who are much less fortunate than you are.
How your behavior is with the other person is the only way to know if you are compassionate or not. Talking about compassion or singing prayers of compassion, or chanting is not really a compassionate act. Your life and conduct should reflect compassion.
