EP.14, Out of the Bubble with Tricia Stewart, the driving force behind the infamous Calendar Girls.
Welcome back to episode 2 and this week we have a bumper edition full of inspiring women. My first guest really epitomises what Out of the Bubble podcast is all about. I am beyond excited to welcome Tricia Stewart, the driving force behind the alternative WI calendar back in 1999, which went on to become a global phenomenon and to date has raised over £5 million for the Bloodwise charity. You may have bought the calendar, watched the Calendar Girls film where Helen Mirren plays Tricia or seen the stage version or musical but now it's time to meet the lady behind it all.
Motivating song/music- Fall on me by Andrea Bocelli.
Favourite Book- The Wrong Boy. by Willy Russell.
Who inspires you? My mum, she had 5 kids, she didn't have me and my twin brother until she was 46, she never seemed older than any of the other mothers. She was fabulous.
If you'd like to know more about Tricia you can visit www.wicalendargirl.com and for more information about all the important work the Bloodwise charity do please go to Bloodwise.org.uk
As if that's not enough inspiration we then get to go behind the scenes from this years MacMillan Charity fashion show in Ilkley, which I have volunteered in for the last ten years. This event has raised literally tens of thousands to date and I genuinely love meeting up with all the volunteers each year. I thought it would be fun to hear from some of the brave women that take part each year to find out why they said yes and what they get out of it.
I'll be back in a fortnight when I will be joined by journalist Marina Gask, co-founder of Audrey on line. We get to chat about the lack of representation of older women in the media, what's behind Audreys #generationrestart and changing direction later in life.
In the mean time....keep being fabulous! (Background music credited to Scott Holmes- My Big Adventure)
