Moment of Meditation: Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness (Matthew 5:6)
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.
(Matthew 5:6)
Nothing feels better than being satisfied. Whether it's being proven right or not being able to push yourself away from the table. As Americans, these situations come much more often than being hungry and thirsty.
I'm not talking about simply being a bit parched after spending time out in the heat. I'm not talking about "having the munchies." I'm talking about being truly hungry and thirsty. Like the infamous images from the "Save the Children" infomercials. Not having ANY food for days. Not having clean water to drink. This is hungry and thirsty.
Hungering and thirsting for righteousness begins by admitting you have none. Like the children starving for food around the world, you have no source of righteousness that you can claim for yourself. Scrounge around in the recesses of your being. You won't find any righteousness.
Righteousness only comes from the Righteous Judge. Righteousness comes by being declared righteous by Jesus when He forgives your sins. Confess your sinfulness and unrighteousness and you will be satisfied by His holiness and righteousness. Amen.
