Moment of Meditation: Meek (Matthew 5:5)

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.
(Matthew 5:5)

Meek

Years ago, the Ziggy comic strip had a very thought-provoking comic that has stuck with me ever since. Ziggy stands on a hilltop, looking into the sky. He asks, "If the meek inherit the earth, what will the inheritance tax be?"

Profound question that seeks a profound answer. This morning, I have it for you. The inheritance tax to inherit the earth is your sin. Being meek, we have no ambitions for world domination. We don't try to remake the earth in our image. We seek God to remake us in His image. It was in His image we were first created. We've striven to reclaim that lost image ever since.

Give Jesus your sin. Don't keep it for yourself. You cannot do anything with them or about them. Give them to the One who can take them away through His death and resurrection. Amen.
