Moment of Meditation: Intercessory Prayer (Hebrews 7:24-25)
But the priesthood which Jesus holds is perpetual,
because He remains forever. That is why He is also able
to save absolutely those who approach God through Him;
He is always living to plead on their behalf.
(Hebrews 7:24-25 NEB)
In the sixth place, worship should revolve around intercessory prayer. St. Paul calls us to be imitators of him as he imitates Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1). What is Jesus doing in Heaven right now? He is interceding for you. He is pleading for the souls of all Christians throughout the world. He is pleading for those who have fallen away from the faith. He is pleading for those who have yet to be called to faith. Jesus "is always living to plead on their behalf."
Corporate worship is surrounded and grounded in intercessory prayer. Throughout the liturgical service we're praying and interceding for everyone. That is our portion of the worship "W". We intercede for those who are sick. Those who are recovering from surgery. Those who have lost loved ones. These intercessions dominate our worship because we need them. In these intercessions, we find ourselves and our worship grounded in the prayers and intercessions Jesus taught us in the Lord's Prayer.
Jesus always intercedes for us at the Father's right hand because we always need them. Imitate your Savior. Intercede for those you know who are in need. Amen.
