Moment of Meditation: Habitual (Hebrews 10:24-25)
We ought to see how each of us may best arouse others to love and active goodness,
not staying away from our meetings, as some do,
but rather encouraging one another,
all the more because you see the Day drawing near.
(Hebrews 10:24-25 NEB)
Worship, in the fifth place, should be habitual. God commanded in the Old Testament for every male to present himself before the Temple in Jerusalem three times a year (Exodus 23:14-17; 34:23-24). The three great feasts of the Old Testament--Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles--were to be held in Jerusalem. Every male was to be there. It was to be habitual that these three feasts were set aside to make the pilgrimage to God's holy place to worship.
Even in the first century, the writer to the Hebrews has to deal with Jewish Christians who wanted to throw off the Law completely. Anything that was the basis of the Mosaic Law was to be done away with. Even habitual worship. Whenever they remembered was good enough for them. But the writer to the Hebrews tells them that they need to be in worship habitually. Especially now that we're in the Last Days.
"The Day [is] drawing near." Jesus is coming back. You should be ready. The best way to be ready for Him is to be habitually in His house, receiving His gifts. Amen.
