Moment of Meditation: Born in Bethlehem

MESSIANIC PROPHECY: BORN IN BETHLEHEM

Prophecy:

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,

Though you are small among the clans of Judah,

Out of you will come from Me one who will be ruler over Israel,

Whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.

Micah 5:2

Fulfillment:

So Joseph went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. … While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn son.

Luke 2:4-7

Thought:

Bethlehem was King David’s birthplace. Having the Messiah be born in the same town would not surprise Micah’s listeners. However, Bethlehem was a much smaller city during Herod’s reign. Only a few dozen families lived there. In this small town, the Lamb of God would be born to take away the sin of the world. Amen.
