Moment of Meditation: True Knowledge (1 Timothy 6:20-21)
Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you.
Avoid the pointless discussions and contradictions
of what is falsely called knowledge.
Although some claim to have it,
they have abandoned the faith.
May grace be with all of you!
(1 Timothy 6:20-21 ISV)
Many people want to acquire knowledge. Solomon says (Ecclesiastes 1:13-18):
I dedicated myself to using wisdom for study and discovery of everything that is done under heaven. God uses terrible things so human beings will struggle with life. I observed every activity done on earth. My conclusion: all of it is pointless様ike chasing after the wind. What is crooked cannot be made straight; what is not there cannot be counted. I told myself, "I have become greater and wiser than anyone who ruled before me in Jerusalem遥es, I have acquired a great deal of wisdom and knowledge." So I dedicated myself to learn about wisdom and knowledge, and about insanity and foolishness. And I discovered that this is also like chasing after the wind. For with much wisdom there is much sorrow; the more someone adds to knowledge, the more someone adds to grief.Solomon is touted as the wisest man who ever lived. He sought out any and every source of knowledge available to him in his day. He discovered that worldly knowledge leads to sorrow because it is incomplete. Only through God's grace does true knowledge come to human hearts. Through true knowledge, knowledge of Jesus' death and resurrection to forgive your sins, comes faith that carries us from this world into the next. Amen.
