Moment of Meditation: Doesn't Provide (1 Timothy 5:8)
If anyone does not provide for his relatives,
and especially for his immediate family,
he has denied the faith
and become worse than an unbeliever.
(1 Timothy 5:8)
What's worse than an unbeliever? A believer who doesn't provide for their family. That goes for blood family as well as spiritual family. In our rural area, many of our congregations are experiencing hard economic times. Not ready to close the doors just yet. Just needing a bit more cash flow like there was twenty years ago.
The problem? Apathy. People just don't care about the congregation that brought them to faith. Too many people believe that the Church is only a place to get pitched, hitched and ditched. To be baptized, to get married and to be buried. If it's not one of those times, don't bother them with it. But what assurance do they have that the congregation will still be there for them?
Too many people aren't making provisions as they once had. Are you one of those who are members "in name only"? Your name's on the membership list, but you can't remember the last time you stepped foot into the building? It's time to change that now. Get back to church. Your congregation needs you. Congregations cannot continue on life support for very long. Don't risk the Gospel being taken out of Slayton because you're too busy. Occupy Church. Amen.
