Moment of Meditation: Family of God (1 Timothy 5:1-2)

Do not rebuke an older man harshly,
but exhort him as if he were your father.
Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers,
and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.
(1 Timothy 5:1-2)

Family of God

The congregation of believers should be seen as God's family in that place. Each member of the congregation has his or her own role in the family. Older men as fathers. Older women as mothers. Younger men as brothers. Younger women as sisters.

Sure, families fight and have their problems within themselves, but they take care of things within the family. Everyone wants to live together in peace and harmony. We have that peace and harmony by treating them with the proper and due respect. When we can do that "with absolute purity," we can live in Christ's peace as we live as a family with Christ as our head. Amen.
