Moment of Meditation: Good Minister (1 Timothy 4:6)
Original Broadcast: October 2011
If you point these things out to the brothers,
you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus,
brought up in the truths of the faith
and of the good teaching that you have followed.
(1 Timothy 4:6)
What makes a good minister? Powerful voice? Good looks? Very personable personality? All of these help, but St. Paul says a good minister is one who preaches Jesus. Good news or bad news. A good minister preaches Jesus no matter what.
Jesus isn't always the most popular person in human history. There are times where Jesus and His Word are greatly accepted and appreciated. But when Jesus send His people out to rebuke sin, He becomes public enemy number one. Everyone likes Jesus when He's talking about loving other people, being nice to people, being a role model.
A good minister preaches Jesus regardless of His popularity. A good minister is often not the most popular person in town because he answers to a higher calling. He doesn't tailor his sermons to the whims of the congregation. He tailors his sermons to the truth of the Law of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Nothing makes him waver in his stand for Jesus. This is what Paul wants Timothy to preach and for all Christians to hear and learn. Amen.
