Moment of Meditation: Seared with a Hot Iron (1 Timothy 4:2)
Original Broadcast: October 2011
Such teachings come through hypocritical liars,
whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.
(1 Timothy 4:2)
Those who promote the demonic teachings about which St. Paul warns Timothy have been seared in their conscience. They are permanently set in their ways. They have abandoned and forsaken the Christian faith to the point that they cannot return. They are too tightly held in Satan's grasp. They had made shipwreck of their faith (1 Timothy 1:19-20). The boat cannot be put back together.
What keeps God from being able to bring these people back into the fold? Their lack of repentance. God cannot forgive them for their sins because they don't want to be forgiven. Without repentance, there is no forgiveness of sins. This is why Paul can talk about men like Alexander and Hymenaeus were handed over to Satan. Why Judas Iscariot will not be in Heaven. There's no repentance. Their conscience has been seared and it cannot be undone.
But there is still hope for you. Have you abandoned the faith? Have you followed after the idiotic teachings of the demons running around in our world today? There's still time for you. Repent and come back to the Lord who died for you. Come back before your conscience is seared and your eternal fate is permanently set. Embrace the faith delivered once for all and find the forgiveness of your sins. Amen.
