Moment of Meditation: Dignified (1 Timothy 3:8)
Deacons likewise must be dignified.
(1 Timothy 3:8)
As we move to the office of deacon, St. Paul tells us they are similar. "Deacons likewise must be dignified." Dignity encompasses many of the required virtues of pastors and deacons. Dignity is truly honor and nobility.
Being dignified, deacons and pastors conduct themselves properly. This is why we hold them to a higher standard. That's also a reason people don't want to take these positions in congregations. They don't want the higher standard. They want to be "just one of the guys". To be like everyone else.
But God calls each Christian to the same higher standard. We are all called to be dignified and do things properly. A major reason that there are so many divisions in the Christian Church today. How are things done and said properly? People have historically differed on these things. But we are still holding ourselves to the higher standard of dignity. A dignity that is only given to us from God the Father. Amen.
