Moment of Meditation: Not Fall into Disgrace (1 Timothy 3:7)
The people outside the Church must speak well of him, or he may fall into disgrace and the devil's snare.
(1 Timothy 3:7)
With a pastor's involvement in the community groups and organizations, he brings a higher level of respect to himself. I've seen many places in small towns just like ours where a pastor who wasn't very community-minded was run out of town because no one would stand up for him when his name was being drug through the mud.
This is Paul's idea when he warns about the pastor falling into disgrace. If no one stands up for you when untrue rumors are flying around, what's to keep you from falling? As with any other Christian, it's your responsibility to stand up and correct what you know to be untrue when it is spoken about someone else. This is especially true and necessary when it comes to pastors. Whether it's your pastor or not whose name is being drug through the mud, it's your responsibility to stand up for them. One day it might just be you who needs someone to stand up for them. How would you feel if no one wanted to stand up for you? Amen.
