Moment of Meditation: Above Reproach (1 Timothy 3:2)
Now the overseer must be above reproach.
(1 Timothy 3:2)
What does it mean to be "above reproach"? And why do pastors need this? Actually, all Christians are called to be above reproach. Each of us is called to live the life that Christ has called us to. "We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). God has created good works for us to do. Being "above reproach" means doing those works. Being the people God has called us to be so that we don't provide stumbling blocks for our weaker brothers and sisters in the faith. Be above the reproaches and accusations of the world so that your heavenly Father might be glorified in your lives.
Pastors are especially charged in this way because we are set up as examples to the congregation. "Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account" (Hebrews 13:17). Give praise to God for your pastor and pray for God to keep them above reproach. Amen.
