Moment of Meditation: Noble Task (1 Timothy 3:1)
Here is a trustworthy saying:
If anyone set his heart on being an overseer,
he desires a noble task.
(1 Timothy 3:1)
The office of pastor is definitely a noble task. God puts pastors in charge of large numbers of people and the well-being of their souls. If that's not a noble task, please tell me what is. Think about it for a moment. Your pastor is entrusted and charged with the maintenance of your soul. It doesn't matter whether you saw him last Sunday in church or you've never even met him because it's been so long since you were last in church.
Pastors get the short end of the stick when it comes to reputation. We're the fuddy-duddies or the do-gooders because we're tasked with the proclamation of God's Law and Gospel. We do this because we are overseers. We oversee the health and welfare of the souls God has given us. A very noble, very stressful position.
What can you do about it? Pray for your pastor. And let them know that you're praying for them. They need the encouragement just as much, if not more, than you do. They need to know that their labor is not in vain and that people do actually care for them. Pray that your pastor may remain faithful to their God-given calling. Amen.
