Moment of Meditation: The Woman Deceived (1 Timothy 2:14)
For Adam was not the one deceived;
it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
(1 Timothy 2:14)
Paul reminds Timothy that Adam was not deceived by the serpent. Eve was deceived. That doesn't excuse Adam for his part in the sin: "She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it" (Genesis 3:6). Both are to blame for their sins, just as each of us are to blame for our sins.
Mankind has been playing the "blame game" ever since the Garden. Adam blamed Eve and God for their sin. Eve blamed the serpent. No one wanted to take blame for their own actions. They were kicked out of the Garden for it.
All people are sinners. There's no way around it. We can't avoid it. But what we can do is own it. Say, "Yes, I did that; but I'm laying it at the foot of Jesus' cross because He died for that sin. Can you forgive me?" Doing that, we're no longer deceived but realize that we're redeemed by Christ the crucified. Amen.
