Moment of Meditation: Adam Formed First (1 Timothy 2:13)
For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
(1 Timothy 2:13)
St. Paul proposes what is known as the "order of creation" argument. Adam was formed from the earth before Eve was formed from his rib. Therefore Adam has supremacy over Eve. Many feminists will use similar logic to say that since Eve was formed last that she is the greatest of God's creatures and therefore should have supremacy over Adam. The two sides of this mirror just lash out at each other instead of understanding where each other is coming from.
If you disagree that Adam was formed first, come talk to me. We'll walk through the Genesis account and see where God shows this quite plainly. Now, which one is supposed to have supremacy over the other? I believe that, in the beginning, there was no supremacy. That Adam and Eve were truly equal with each other, as God calls us to be in marriage. They were the ideal marriage until they fell into sin.
The chicken-and-egg scenario never contributes an intelligent answer to any argument. Does it matter which came first? Does it matter whose creation was dependent on who? No. What is important is how God has handed down His revelation to us. This revelation puts the man in charge of the Church's affairs and women as the dutiful listeners. Don't get involved in the political banter between sides. Get involved in God's Word and see what He says about the situation. Amen.
