Moment of Meditation: Godliness (1 Timothy 2:10)
but with what is proper for women who profess godliness--with good works.
(1 Timothy 2:10)
Paul wraps up his words about women's beauty by reminding us what our clothing is and should be. All who have been baptized have been clothed with Christ's righteousness (Galatians 3:27). A Christian's proper clothing is the good works that God has given him or her to do. This continues the image of the Disney Princesses who are beautiful both inside and outside because their beauty shines from within through the good works they do for others.
Paul says this is what is proper for women and men who profess godliness. Those who want to be like God imitate God. They do the things that He would do. This is Paul's calling to all Christians. Imitate God and thereby be assured of salvation because we are about our Father's business, even as the twelve-year-old Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:49).
Godliness is being like God. How godly are you? Are you exercising modesty and self-control? Are you professing the need for good works in your life? If you are, praise God for His gifts to you. If not, pray that He might help you to become more godly, to become more like Him. Amen.
