Moment of Meditation: Lifting Holy Hands (1 Timothy 2:8)
I desire therefore that the men pray in every place,
lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing.
(1 Timothy 2:8)
Paul calls for men everywhere to lift up their hands in worship. Not in wrath or disputing but in holy worship and praise of God. The Bible talks many times about people going to war with each other, people slaying each other, by lifting up their hands against them. Paul says, "None of that. Use your hands for what God gave them to you. Worship Him through praise and prayer."
Paul calls for the raising up of hands as we see in worship when we receive the Lord's forgiveness of our sins. When we receive the Lord's benediction. When we lift our hearts to the Lord in prayer and praise, elevating our thoughts to things above as Jesus has said, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21). Treasure the things that are above. The things in the heavenly places. Then you will find yourself on the path that God has set before you. Amen.
