Moment of Meditation: One Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5)
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men,
the man Christ Jesus.
(1 Timothy 2:5)
As St. Paul continues to discuss the need for prayer for all people, he also reminds us about the one Mediator who prays for us before our heavenly Father. The one Mediator who we know for certain is able to pray for us and bring our petitions before the Father is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
One of the arguments in Luther's Reformation was the invocation and prayers to the saints. Luther pointed to this passage as he spoke against the abuses against the Gospel as the saints had been elevated to a greater standing than God.
We have one Mediator. Jesus Himself has invited us to approach Him and bring our petitions to Him. We have no need for any other mediators between us and God. God took care of that when He became flesh and dwelt among us. Amen.
