Moment of Meditation: Spirit of Knowledge (1 Corinthians 8:1-2)
Original Broadcast: December 2010
Monthly Theme: God's Spirit
We know that "all of us possess knowledge."
This "knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up.
If anyone imagines that he knows something,
he does not yet know as he ought to know.
(1 Corinthians 8:1-2)
Knowledge is a great and wonderful blessing, but knowledge can be wrong. We send our children to school to gain knowledge. But even this knowledge is incomplete. We cannot know everything we need from our classes at school. We need another source of knowledge. This more complete knowledge is available only through revelation.
St. Paul reminds us that even those of us with advanced knowledge still don't know as we ought to know. Not unless we have the revelation of the Holy Spirit to guide us into that more complete knowledge. Failure to achieve this knowledge can be devastating for our souls. This knowledge isn't just facts. It's being able to see things as God sees them and react as God would have us react. It's doing things from God's perspective and not our own. The Holy Spirit guides us so that we may know as we ought. Amen.
