Moment of Meditation: Spirit of Understanding (Luke 10;21)
Original Broadcast: December 2010
Monthly Theme: God's Spirit
In that same hour [Jesus] rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said,
"I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
that You have hidden these things from the wise and understanding
and revealed them to little children;
yes, Father, for such was Your gracious will."
(Luke 10:21)
The Holy Spirit is also a spirit of understanding. Wisdom and understanding are two different things. One may have wisdom without understanding. One may also have understanding without wisdom. Wisdom can be seen as common sense, and understanding can be seen as street smarts.
Understanding comes from experience. Wisdom comes from the revelation of instinct. Understanding takes what happens to us in this life and puts the puzzle pieces together into a coherent picture. The Holy Spirit guides us so that we see the proper picture to place the puzzle pieces in the right place.
Without understanding, the picture is incomplete. Without the Holy Spirit, you are incomplete. With the spirit of understanding, you are complete. You are able to know the Father's will. Amen.
