Moment of Meditation: Good Thoughts (Philippians 4:8)
Finally, brothers, whatever is true,
whatever is noble,
whatever is right,
whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely,
whatever is admirable--
if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--
think about such things.
(Philippians 4:8)
As St. Paul finishes up his epistle to the Philippians, he makes sure we understand the type of desires and thoughts we should have. Good thoughts. True. Noble. Right. Pure. Lovely. Admirable.
These good thoughts should fill our minds. Fill them to the point that we have no room for the evil thoughts that bring about sin. As we fill our minds with thoughts that are pleasing to God, we can become more like God. This is a major reason behind the push to memorize Scripture. The more we fill our minds with God's Word, the more we'll become like God.
This is what all people want. We want to be like God. God wants us to be like Him. That's why He repeats throughout the Scriptures: "Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy" (Leviticus 19:1). Holiness can only come from holy thoughts. Holy thoughts come from His Word. Study it as you begin your day. Amen.
