Moment of Meditation: Possessions (Luke 12:15)
[Jesus said:] "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed;
a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
(Luke 12:15)
Despite what most financial wizards say, you are not the sum of your portfolio. No matter what you have or don't have in your 401(k), your mutual funds, your stocks and bonds. No matter how much you have in your bank accounts. No matter how much you can charge on the credit cards in your purse or wallet. None of this make you you.
You are a creature made by God. Made specifically a certain way. Your own abilities. Your own likes and dislikes. Your own mind. No two of us are alike. God spent His time making each one of us unique. Formed us in our mother's womb.
He has also given us all of our possessions. Everything has been given as a project for stewardship. Our possessions are not given us to help us rate ourselves against our neighbors. They are given us to rate ourselves and our faithfulness to the Lord who gave us life and has offered us the chance at redemption. Amen.
