Moment of Meditation: Jesus' Trial (Matthew 26:59-61)
Original Broadcast: August 2010
Monthly Theme: Eighth Commandment
Now the chief priests and the whole Council were seeking false testimony against Jesus
that they might put him to death, but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward.
At last two came forward and said, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.'"
And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make?
What is it that these men testify against you?"
But Jesus remained silent.
(Matthew 26:59-61)
Jesus refused to answer the false accusations. There was no reason to answer. His words would continue to be twisted. His words of comfort were turned into words of condemnation. Jesus prophesied His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins. However, the Sanhedrin wasn't able to understand. They didn't want to understand.
But you, dear Christian, can understand. You have the Holy Spirit, who allows you to understand Jesus' words. Jesus proclaimed His Word so that you might know the forgiveness of sins that He gives to you. Such wonderful words need not be twisted. They should be taken as He spoke them. Amen.
